5PM - 8PM

Bicycle Parade from 48th St towards 45th & Apgar St, Oakland

National Night Out for Safety & Liberation was a community gathering in the streets of Oakland, co-hosted by Neighbors for Racial Justice (N4RJ) that was an incredible evening of celebration and connection between neighbors to help one another feel closer, and safer with one another. Neighbors gathered together with music, food, and in-depth discussions to understand that safety and liberation is the responsibility of all of us as a collective. We even had the Black Cowboys join in this most memorable evening! Some of the questions that were brought up were:

What makes you feel safe in your community?
What connects you with your neighbors?
What does accountability look like that doesn't involve more harm?
How can accountability and safety reinforce each other?
How are you/your community creating a less traumatic, violent world?
What is satisfiable justice?
Can accountability make policing more effective?
What principles do you bring to your community that creates belonging for all?
In what ways is your community harmony focused? In what ways is it fear-focused?
What are non-carceral paths to safety? To Justice?
What sounds bring you a sense of safety?
