10AM - 5PM

Lil Bobby Hutton Park (DeFremery Park)

‘Life is Living’ celebrates the living legacy of the Black Panther Party and their powerful survival programs.  We were honored to share space with our partners and mentors The Black Panther Party Alumni Legacy Network as well as It’s About Time, the Panther Archives stewarded by Billy X Jennings.

This year’s festival featured a Panther Survival Conference with presentations by many Panther legends.  During the day, community health and community service organizations offered a variety of resources from medical screenings, free organic vegetables and acupuncture.  The goal: to recognize art as a tool for healing, ensuring that neighbors living in and around the park feel cared for and seen.

Our passionate engagement team talked to festival participants throughout the grounds about their views on uplifting and preserving Oakland’s Black communities.

What survival program do we need today?

How can we support and preserve the history and culture of the Black community in Oakland?
